Equine Bodywork

Better body = Better horse

What may be new and exciting for you is equine bodywork.  Combining physical care and riding competency enhances the partnership with your horse.  I offer training and therapy in the bodywork techniques of these pioneers:

In 1998 I was honored to join Linda Tellington-Jones in providing bodywork in the Reiner Klimke clinic located at L.A. Equestrian Center.

Just a few consistently applied therapies can allow your horse to move with greater range of motion and improved

relaxation.

Give your horse the gift of well-being - and you a better ride!

The joy of riding is for anyone!

I was honored to be invited to practice TTouch with Linda Tellington-Jones at the 1986 Paralympics in Atlanta, GA.  We provided calming bodywork for the horses whose riders had many varied physical challenges.  On top of that, these paralympians were riding horses they had never see before the competition!

As an outgrowth of my Paralympics experience, I am currently a PATH, Int'l Certified Instructor.  I teach part time with Therapeutic Riding of Tucson (TROT) as well as private lessons for students with special needs.

This provides me the joy of teaching riders with physical and cognitive challenges while observing how horses provide healing.

Testimonials

“I have aspirations to event - it's on my bucket list!  Cathy has helped me compete in my first recognized dressage show and we are working toward our first hunter/jumper show.  Watusi and I are in excellent hands to achieve our goal.”

Anne Marie Wagner

“Cathy has a quiet, gentle way with kids and horses that makes them feel relaxed and happy to learn and to try new things.  Riding lesson day is my daughter's favorite day of the week!”

“I am a partially disabled senior citizen and I trained with Cathy at TROT (Therapeutic Riding of Tucson) and on a private basis.  Learning to ride and provide Masterson Method equine body work has helped increase my confidence.  Cathy's patience, support and knowledge in teaching those of us with physical challenges helped me stretch my own limits and experience the profound world of horses.”

Toni Broten

“Cathy is an excellent coach!  She is able to describe corrections to my riding and new concepts in multiple ways that are easy to apply.  The comfort of the horse is paramount to her and she expects correct and consistent riding from her students to facilitate confidence, progression and ability in the horse/rider team.  I recommend Cathy to anyone looking for and accomplished, knowledgeable and respected trainer.”

Beth Stahmer

"I've been riding in various English disciplines for more than 30 years, but I knew my skill level was nowhere near commensurate with my time in the saddle.  A friend suggested Cathy and she gave me great tips on how to ride my less-than-forward Percheron/Paint cross, Frank.  She also fitted him with a better saddle and now Frank and I are on the path to true classical riding."

“I am so lucky to have found Cathy Schreiber.  I rode as a kid but that was 30 years ago!  Cathy ensures that the lessons are at my pace but she also pushes me to improve and expand my skills.  I went from a complete dressage novice to successfully competing in local schooling shows.  Every lesson is a blast and a fantastic experience.”

Brenda Robison

"Cathy taught me to be patient with horses and myself, and provided me with one of the most beautiful riding foundations.  I easily transitioned to hunter/jumper after riding dressage with Cathy for eight years."

“Cathy's concern for my safety and that of the horse is an enormous comfort to me.  Her calm and even temperament creates an environment that benefits the development and relationship of both horse and rider.”

“Before I met Cathy I had no knowledge of horses and was a little intimidated by their size!  With Cathy's patience and support over the last five years, I not only now own my own horse, Jazzy, but recently received the USDF Century Ride Award - recognition for riding a dressage test in which the horse and rider's combined ages equals 100 or more.  Proof that it's never too late to learn to ride!  I also learned the Masterson Method of equine bodywork that has impoved 30 year old Jazzy's quality of life.”

What kind of training do you take, yourself?

I have been so fortunate to have trained with so many great instructors.  Besides the ones already mentioned, I have taken instruction from local trainers Pat Baker-Shirah, Scarlett Fahrenson and Ellie Stine-Masek.  I've also ridden in clinics with Julie Leiken, Janet Peters and Carla Symader, to mention a few.

I believe all riders must enhance their skills and continue to learn.  Our horses are happier and more physically capable with a balanced rider.  After all, even olympians have coaches!

For myself, this also means Pilates, weight training, Alexander Technique, chiropractic care and, of course, ballroom and country dancing!
