Cathy was an accomplished rider at an early age and began teaching lessons at fifteen years old. As a junior rider she competed successfully in Medal and Maclay equitation classes, Pony Club, eventing and hunter/jumper shows. She went on to earn a B.A. in Equestrian Science at Lake Erie College. Through the term abroad program at Lake Erie College Cathy went to England to study with the British Horse Society and became a British Horse Society Certified Instructor (BHSAI). She competed on the Florida and Michigan circuits and attended the Violet Hopkins seminars to refine her dressage training and knowledge.

Cathy came to Arizona in the early nineties and established herself as a versatile instructor and trainer, offering instruction that goes beyond good riding and horsemanship. Intuitive in nature, she understands the minds of both horse and student. She teaches students how to work with horses through behavior awareness and positive reinforcement. Her patience, experience and sense of humor guide her students through an exploration of their relationship with their horse and themselves.
Communication is an essential part of every lesson with Cathy. On the ground or in the saddle she ensures there’s a steady flow of information between trainer, rider and horse. Whether it’s a more refined way to cue the horse or a more suitable schedule of veterinary care, she takes the time to discuss options and goals with each student.
